Who is Accrington's manager?

John Coleman has been the Accrington Stanley manager since 2014. This is his second stint at the club after managing them from 1999-2012. He’s guided them from League Two to League One and will hope he can go further with the club. He’s an experienced manager after managing 5 different clubs and has been a manager for over 20 years.

John Coleman was also an impressive player as he played for over 10 clubs scoring over 500 goals across his career. He’s been known as one of the most prolific non-league goalscorers of all time and has won many player of the year awards at different clubs. He was also chosen to play for the “England National Football C team” which is the England National side for semi professional players.

In his 13 year tenure at Accrington Stanley, he guided the club through 3 promotions which got them to the Football League in 2006. He joined the club in 1999 where they were in the Northern Premier League First Division which is the 7th division of English football. He’s the club’s longest serving manager and is the third longest serving manager in the history of English football behind only Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsène Wenger who managed Manchester United and Arsenal respectively.

He left Accrington Stanley in January 2012 to manage Rochdale along with his assistant Jimmy Bell replacing the outgoing Steve Eyre. After an unsuccessful stint at Rochdale, he moved to Southport and the Sligo Rovers both of which were unsuccessful before rejoining Accrington Stanley in the summer of 2014.

In his second spell at Accrington Stanley in League Two, he had to wait for 3 years before getting promoted as he won the League Two title in the 2017-18 season. The next season, he guided the newly promoted side to a solid mid table finish as they cemented their spot in League One.

Who knows what the future holds for Accrington Stanley, but they have a very competent manager in John Coleman and he could look to take them to the next level. If he gets the backing from the board that is required, Accrington Stanley fans could be looking at Championship football in the near future.
