Who is Morecambe FC manager Jim Bentley?

Jim Bentley is the current manager of Morecambe and has been in the job since May 2011 and is the longest serving current EFL manager. Bentley was born on 11 June 1976 in Liverpool, England and is 43 years of age. Jim Bentley was previously a professional footballer playing for English sides around the country such as Manchester City, Telford and Morecambe as a centre back but made many appearances at left back and right back.

In Manchester City’s youth academy, Bentley struggled to make an impact before moving on to Telford in 1997 and stayed at the club for 5 years. He made a few friendly appearances for Telford but never made a competitive appearance as he moved on to Morecambe in 2002. He played for Morecambe for 9 years from 2002 to 2011 where he made 298 competitive appearances for the club scoring 29 goals.

Bentley never retired but slowly moved into a managerial role at the club from being the reserve coach to the first team manager. He worked as a player-manager for 2 years before being appointed the full time manager in May 2011. Since being appointed manager, Morecambe have finished 15th, 16th, 18th, 11th, 21st, 18th, 15th and 18th. Jim Bentley kept the club in the EFL League Two for 8 consecutive seasons and will hope to move forward in the future. The club hasn’t had a successful cup run in either the EFL Cup, the EFL Trophy or the FA Cup and the fans will be desperate to see the club move on from their low finishes in League Two in the near future.

In December 2016, Bentley was fined £1000 after a touchline argument along with a 2 match ban after reacting to Alex Kenyon’s red card in Morecambe’s match against Cheltenham in which they lost 2-1. However, the fans got together and donated £1000 to pay for the fine on Jim Bentley’s behalf. After Paul Tisdale left Exeter City, Jim Bentley is the current holder of the title of longest serving manager in the English Football League after being in charge of Morecambe FC for 8 years. Bentley will hope to continue managing Morecambe but will have to improve recent form if he is to do so. If Bentley can’t improve the recent league standings, the fans may want a new man in charge.
